Compass Volunteer Opportunities

Clerical/Administration

Volunteers who wish to increase or use their administrative and communication skills will benefit by applying for this position. This position is also one of Compass’s highest needs. By filing this position with volunteers, the staff at Compass can focus on serving our clients and community more effectively. This is a key volunteer position for Compass, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Answering Agency Phones -Greeting guests and visitors
  • Directing Group members -Organizing meeting rooms
  • Providing Referrals
  • Typing/Filing
  • Giving Guided Tours of Community Ctrs -Mailings
  • Being A Compass Advocate -Closing Procedures

Volunteers applying for this position will work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator. Hours for this position are Monday-Thursday 10am to 8:30pm, Fridays 10am to 5pm and Sundays 5pm to 8:30pm.

Special Events/Development

Volunteers who wish to increase or use their fundraising skills should apply for this position. Special Events range from serving beverages at festivals to organizing and planning a black tie affair. This position will help provide a bright financial future for the Compass Programs and Community Center.

Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Event/Party Planning Sales
  • Solicitation Design Work
  • Graphic Design Public/Media Relations
  • Grant Writing Membership Services
  • Entertainment

Volunteers applying for this position will work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator and the Director of Development. Hours and commitment time vary throughout the year depending upon assignments and project dates.

Community Outreach/Education

Safe Company/HIV Prevention Program

Volunteers who wish to take an active role in the Gay and Lesbian community to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS should apply for this position. Palm Beach County ranks 3rd in the United States for the number of adults and children living with HIV/AIDS per capita. As the number of HIV/AIDS cases increase in Palm Beach County, so does the need for this service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Bar Outreach Neighborhood Outreach
  • Mailings Community Events
  • Group Meetings Home Meetings/Parties

Board of Directors

Compass board members are needed not only for legal reasons but because boards contribute immensely to an organization’s ability to succeed. By the very act of serving on the board, board members demonstrate through volunteer leadership both the contribution of the community and the community’s responsibility to lead. Acting for the public and the community, the board of directors also has a special role as the conscience of the organization-ensuring ethical and effective work that makes a difference in the world. Volunteers interested in becoming board members should send a letter of request to the Executive Director.
